Killers?

The most dangerous animal on the planet! Hippopotami kill more people in Africa than any other animal. The reason for this is that they feed at night on the banks of the rivers, but feel very threatened if people come between them and the water. People use the paths created by the hippo's to collect water in many rural communities. Hard to believe, but Hippos can run up to 40 kilometers per hour. Hippos also have a nasty habit of attacking small boats that cruise on their rivers.

Now theres a debate - some also suggest that the Cape Buffalo is the most dangerous:

"Reportedly, a buffalo that is only wounded will circle around and begin to stalk the hunter, waiting for an opportunity to charge the hunter and gore him with its sharp horns.

Under any circumstances, Cape buffalo are best given wide berth. Despite their placid, cow-like appearance, Cape buffalo (according to some) are responsible for more human deaths in Africa than any other large animal (though some say that hippos are the most dangerous while others argue for crocodiles)"

Cut from: http://www.on-the-matrix.com/africa/buffalo.asp

But my vote is the mighty mosquito - indirectly killing one person every 30 seconds.

Yes indeed, Cape Buffalo should be given a wide berth - as wide as possible in fact. I have a vet friend who said that a Cape Buffalo was the most difficult berth he's ever attended. It was twins though, so maybe that had something to do with it.
