Blog Explosion!

Gareth pointed me to Blog Explosion as a way to grow traffic. I think the graph speaks for itself.

I’ve little interest in boring people with my interests in South Africa and Africa however. Seems to me forcing people to surf blogs they would usually never go to so that your stats counter can grow seems a bit inane. Nevertheless, you can only grow your audience if you get exposure so I'm going to be using blog explosion for the next month and then stop and see if I have grown the number of people that actually read my blog as opposed to the people that are forced to park off here for 30 seconds and are wondering why the hell cant this dude get a life.

If you want to give it a try on your blog, click on the banner and tell them I sent you.

Interesting, keep us informed.

if I understand it correctly, the more blogs you visit, the more they visit you. that inevitably leads to people clicking on blogs to get "points", and it means that many people will click onto the blog without reading it.

I use a hit counter to get an idea of the number of people who read my blog. It sounds like Blogexplosion would cloud that information. High hits should convey information, but blog explosion sounds like it would decrease the quality of that information.

Know wha' Im say'n?

Well, there are two things that moderate those "lost hits" you're talking about.

1) High "enough" traffic. If you get enough traffic, a handful of hits from Blog Explosion aren't going to drive up your stats into statistical noise. Take a look at mine:

http://my.statcounter.com/project/standard/stats.php?project_id=336497&guest=1Up, down, up, down. I started playing with Blog Explosion 2 days ago. Can you tell from the stats?

2) Referer tags. I can tell which are coming from BE, and not, from the server logs. It's pretty easy to see who they are, how long they stay, etc.
